Photo of Pastor Yasenka

Pastor Scott Howard was born and raised in the desert southwest of El Paso, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a degree in Asian Studies, specializing in Japanese religion. He ventured north to study theology at Yale Divinity School and Institute of Sacred Music, where he earned a Master of Divinity. Next was the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia where Scott earned a Master of Sacred Theology, with emphasis on Biblical Studies. He has had opportunities to study abroad in both Japan and England.

Pr Scott was ordained into the Ministry of Word and Sacrament in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), and first served as the pastor of St Stephen in Marlborough, MA. He arrived as the new pastor of Triumphant Cross on Oct 1 2015. Pr Scott follows the Rev. Linn Opderbecke who served as interim Pastor for Triumphant Cross since Pr David Yasenka’s retirement in 2014 after 30 years of ministry.

Pr Scott, his wife Emily and their two children, are excited about their new call at Triumphant Cross. As Pr Scott puts it: God planted in me a passion for proclaiming the Word–the very word which created the universe, spoke through the prophets, revealed itself in scripture, and became flesh in Jesus. I am thrilled to preach, teach, lead and feed a community that believes the unbelievable, loves the unlovable, and dares to dream God’s dream for the world. Let the conversation begin.
