Joining Triumphant Cross

Those who are new to our community may wonder what process is needed to become an official member of Triumphant Cross.  Everyone should know that our mission is feed people spiritually and physically, so everyone is welcome to participate in the worship, learning, fellowship, and spiritual life our congregation.  Membership is not a requirement of faith, nor necessary for participation in God’s Kingdom, nor even your ticket to heaven.  But it does allow you the fuller breadth and depth of participation in the life of the community of faith–the Body of Christ–here at Triumphant Cross.  Formal membership requires a conversation with Pastor Scott. Here is what to expect:

  • If you are a current member of another Lutheran congregation or congregation with whom the ELCA is in partnership (e.g. Episcopal Church), you need only speak with Pastor Scott and then request a letter of transfer from your congregation to Triumphant Cross.  Once the letter is received, you will be welcomed with a short prayer during a convenient worship service.
  • If you are a member of a church that is not Lutheran or in partnership with the ELCA (e.g. Baptist), speak to  Pastor Scott and plan to be received during a convenient worship service with a brief Affirmation of Baptism and prayer.
  • If you are new to faith altogether, your journey begins with a conversation with Pastor Scott and plans to participate in the sacrament of Holy Baptism (a sacrament is a means of God’s grace that uses physical things, like water or bread and wine, to convey God’s promise of grace).  Then begins your lifelong mystagogical journey (fancy word for “on the job training”) as a new disciple of Jesus.
